Choir Tour: Music that people haven't heard before
by Henry
The Trinity Boys Choir travelled to Germany in February, and completed the first ever recording of a 16th century musical piece.
The choir travelled to Munich to record a piece by Nicholas Ludford, which was written in 1530, called “Missa Dominica” or “Sunday Mass”. The piece would have been performed in St Mary Undercroft, which is now the private chapel of the Houses of Parliament.
According to Mr David Swinson, director of music at Trinity School, it was a “really challenging recording”, and so the most experienced Trinity singers were taken.

They were conserving their energy to make sure that they had plenty of mental energy for the sessions...
The recording schedule was difficult and strenuous. Recording was for eight hours every day and there was only half a day of spare time amongst six days in Germany,
“Recording is tough,” he said, but he commented on the boys’ “immaculate” and “incredibly professional” behaviour.
“They were conserving their energy to make sure that they had plenty of mental energy for the sessions,” he added.
The Trinity Boys Choir go on many trips around the world. There are many journeys on the table for the future, such as a tour to China, concerts in Poland, Italy, Spain and Germany. The choir have a recording contract for five CDs, and so they may record at Trinity School, or go back to Germany.
The future is bright for the choir, as Mr Swinson said this year is “one of the strongest intakes” of new singers.
